Designing and making

Picture
Large-scale fibre art is created working with natural materials. The work is informed and influenced by the land we live on.

We are continuously exploring ways to strengthen the supply chain, encompassing heritage, history and the future, and to give new meaning, relevance and purpose to our designs.

Natural dyes are created from plants like heather, cowslip and Scottish thistle collected from the land surrounding the studio and further afield. We are creating a 'plant bank' of the vegetable materials available in this part of Scotland.

From March 2020 to June 2022 we've been working on the research project
The Colours of Orains , supported by The National Lottery through Creative Scotland.

Workshops

Picture
We offer in-person and remote workshops, for individuals, small groups, corporate and at community events.

Workshops are designed "made to measure": from remote one hour every week to half-day workshops at and from the studio, to week-long residencies including accommodation nearby.

Workshops are suitable for everybody aged 5 and over.

We have experience of working with a wide range of clients, from public sector projects to corporate events.

We have advised on the use of natural dyes in third party products and have directed events,  openings of (faculties of) universities, organised a drive-in dinner on the roof of a multi story car park and directed conferences on environmental and social sustainability.

We have diverse and international experience but are  always rooted locally
