Natural textile art & design
We make large-scale textile art working with natural materials. The work is informed and influenced by the land we live on.
We are continuously exploring ways to strengthen the supply chain, encompassing heritage, history and the future, and to give new meaning, relevance and purpose to our designs.
Natural dyes are created from plants like heather, cowslip and Scottish thistle collected from the land surrounding the studio and further afield. We are creating a 'plant bank' of the vegetable materials available in this part of Scotland.
In 2020 we started the research project
The Colours of Orains supported by The National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
We offer in-person and remote workshops, for individuals, small groups and at community events.
Workshops are designed "made to measure": from remote one hour every week to half-day workshops at the studio, to week-long residencies including accommodation nearby.
Workshops are suitable for everybody aged 4 and over. Pieter holds two PVG certificates for working with children and vulnerable people.
Project & event management
Pieter and Fiona have extensive experience creating, managing and directing cultural and business events for small and large audiences.
The events are tailored and include engaging with key stakeholders, location scouting ("a dinner for architects and city planners in a parking garage") and the creation of totally new concepts such as a restaurant with no kitchen.
